William B. Gillam, Jr.
wbgillamjr@aol.com

Position: Curriculum Specialist On Site - Eau Claire High School
Summary of Skills:  My experiences in and outside the field of education constitute a broad background across many areas of mathematics. Due to a change of major from engineering to computer science late in my bachelor’s program, my undergraduate studies include 22 hours in computer science, 19 hours in engineering and 38 hours in mathematics. My master’s includes 24 additional hours in mathematics.

My employment as a computer programmer furnished me with applied experience in data analysis, quality assurance and problem solving. My employment at the Bamberg-Calhoun-Orangeburg Math/Science Hub gave me experience working in team environments to complete various projects aimed at implementing instructional practices that address the South Carolina and NCTM Mathematics standards. My experience teaching in a distance learning environment has provided the opportunity to investigate alternate delivery systems for instruction, and to consider how these alternatives can be used to improve student experiences. My recent return to the regular classroom last year allowed me to maintain a hands-on understanding for classroom level implementation of standards-based instruction.

Courses Taught: The high school courses I have instructed are Calculus, Pre-Calculus, Algebra III, Geometry, Algebra II, Algebra, Pre-Algebra, Tech-Prep I, Tech Prep II, Applied Mathematical Concepts and General Math. College Courses I have taught include Mathematics Manipulatives and Standards in the K-8 Classroom, Calculus, Statistics, Finite Math, College Algebra and Contemporary Math for Nurses. I have also assisted in conducting Administrative Leadership and Curriculum Leadership Institutes through the BCO Hub.
